Welcome Delegates!

Hi everyone, my name is Justin Flesher and I am very excited to be your Head Chair for the European Union in the upcoming BMUN LXIX! I am from Atlanta, Georgia and I am currently a sophomore studying Economics at Cal. Outside of my passion for MUN, I love to hike, play soccer, and drink copious amounts of caffeine. I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to bring the European Union to BMUN this year. I look forward to learning alongside you all and I cannot wait to see you all in February! Please feel free to ask me any questions regarding the EU, UC Berkeley, or BMUN.




Melika Rahbar will be one of your vice chairs this year! She is a third year at UC Berkeley originally from Orange County, and is pursuing a double major in Economics and Political Science. Outside of Model UN, she is an avid coffee drinker, as well as an involved member in her consulting club UEA and her sorority Delta Sigma. She can’t wait to meet you all!




Rajita Pujare will be another one of your vice chairs this year! She is currently a junior at UC Berkeley, majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She was born and raised in the Bay Area, specifically San Jose. She is thrilled to hear your discussions and ideas on both of these topics! 





Your last — but not least! — Vice Chair this year is Joseph Maga. Hailing from the Bay Area, he is a freshman at UC Berkeley with interests in music and economics. He is excited to be involved with Model United Nations for the first time as one of your vice chairs. He is looking forward to seeing the delegates and the solutions they present!

Important Information Before Conference

Delegates, I hope everyone is excited for conference at the end of this week! Please stay on the lookout for emails and blog posts this week containing a bit more information to help you brush up before conference. This year has definitely been challenging as we have had to switch to an online format during the pandemic. And although this year has been hard on everyone, I hope there have been small moments of reflection and gratitude for each of us. Glossary of Acronyms

Below is a glossary of all of the acronyms you may want to reference during conference and their explanations! EU Related Terms ECSC - European Coal and Steel Community, proposed by Robert Schumann in 1950 and adopted in 1952 including the founding members of the EU: Belgium, France, West Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. EEC - European Economic community, or “common market,” created by the Treaty of Rome in 1957. Renamed the EC by the TEU. TEU - The Treaty on European Union, or “Maastricht Treaty,” forms the EU in 1993. Euratom - European Atomic Energy Community EC - European Community, new name of the EEC EMU - European Monetary Union, outlined in the TEU, sets up the eurozone.
