Glossary of Acronyms
Below is a glossary of all of the acronyms you may want to reference during conference and their explanations!
- EU Related Terms
- ECSC - European Coal and Steel Community, proposed by Robert Schumann in 1950 and adopted in 1952 including the founding members of the EU: Belgium, France, West Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.
- EEC - European Economic community, or “common market,” created by the Treaty of Rome in 1957. Renamed the EC by the TEU.
- TEU - The Treaty on European Union, or “Maastricht Treaty,” forms the EU in 1993.
- Euratom - European Atomic Energy Community
- EC - European Community, new name of the EEC
- EMU - European Monetary Union, outlined in the TEU, sets up the eurozone.
- V4 - Visegrád Group: The Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia
- CFSP - Common Foreign and Security Policy, the EU’s broad foreign policy outline
- CSDP - Common Security and Defense Policy, subgroup of the CFSP focusing on the EDU
- EDU - European Defense Union, defense structure of the EU without its own military
- NATO - North Atlantic Treaty Organization, includes non-European countries, responsibilities include defense of Europe

- AfD - Alternative for Germany (Germany)
- ANO - Action of Dissatisfied Citizens (translated as the YES party), lead by Andrej Babiš (Czech Republic)
- FPÖ - Freedom Party of Austria (Austria)
- PiS - Law and Justice Party, lead by Andrzej Duda (Poland)
- M5S - Five Star Movement (Italy)
- Lega - League (Italy)
- Fidesz - Alliance of Young Democrats, lead by Viktor Orbán (Hungary)
- GERB - Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, lead by Boyko Borissov (Bulgaria)
- EEP - European People’s Party, large center-right European Parliament party, including the CDU, GERB, Fidesz, and others.
- CDU - Christian Democratic Union, lead by Angela Merkel (Germany)
